Summary:
The Engineer, based in Libertyville, IL will support Operations, Contract Manufacturing, Global Engineering, New Product Development (NPD) and Research and Development (R&D). The Engineer is responsible for leading project teams and individuals through effective use of project management skills, process development, and providing technical expertise in injection molding and related technologies. Responsibilities include project management, development and improvement of processes, coordinating and conducting process experiments and related testing. Procurement of tooling and Instillation Qualification (IQ) Operational Qualification (OQ) and the Process Qualification (PQ) of new molds.
Leadership:
Support project teams or individuals, using direct or indirect influence techniques, to support clients needs
Coordinate project activities across multi-functional and cross-geographical teams to meet project deliverables
Frequently demonstrate highly technical and professional competencies on medium to high profile projects
Project Management:
Prepare project scope definitions and cost estimates
Use systematic techniques to break technical projects into fundamental task requirements and manage project goals, tasks, and schedules
Obtain (negotiate for) resources as needed, communicate direction to team members, assign tasks as appropriate, and ensure that commitments are met
Works with internal and external resources to complete projects
Monitor project progress to anticipate problems and develop solutions before they become critical, and use clearly understood metrics to report progress to management
Prepare reports or financial justifications for financial authorization and effectively communicate the results to management
Process Development:
Develop process concepts and alternatives and prepare formal written justifications for financial authorization
Coordinate the design and testing of pilot or mockup processes for proof of concept work
Create process specifications, request for quotations, factory acceptance plans, validation plans, and other relevant documentation to support process introductions
Complete process development and testing through the use of a systematic process employing DOEs and utilizing decoupled modeling principles and other relevant techniques
Complete product or subassembly testing in support of process or product development
Introduce new, validated processes to support NPD, R&D, Operations, or other clients
Frequently demonstrates technical and professional competencies on projects
Technical Support:
Provide technical support for NPD, R&D, Contract Manufacturing, and Operations in the design and development of new plastic injection molded part design to insure manufacturability
Possess and frequently employ technical competence to deliver business results
Business Acumen:
Use sound business principles to evaluate alternatives and provide technical direction
Molding Emphasis:
Creates molding concepts and original mold designs, provides specialized molding problem solving, and integrates total molding systems
Create detailed quotes for new production equipment to support the manufacturing of molded components
Understands general injection molding materials and applies that knowledge in process and product development
Ability to identify mold related defects/issues by assessing mold/process and or part design, provide detailed direction to resolve defects and issues
Knowledge of injection molding systems including: Chillers, temperature controllers, injection molding presses and service (water/electrical) requirements

Work Experience Requirements: Minimum 6-10 years of relevant experience
Minimum 3-5 years of project management experience in the procurement and qualification of new molds in a related industry
Education Requirements: BSME/EE/Chem E or equivalent required
Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge:
Mandatory:
Basic PC and MS Office proficiency
CAD software proficiency
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Preferred:
Familiarity with DOE techniques, statistical analysis tools, and/or DFM principles
3D CAD skills with SolidWorks experience
Familiarity with scientific molding principles
Hands on experience in a mold making, molding process development, and molding environment
Plastic part design experience
Medical device manufacturing experience preferred
FDA, ISO experience preferred
ASQ Green/Black Belt Certification preferred
DFM principals preferred
